Westane Posted January 7, 2011 Report Posted January 7, 2011 Hi, I have checked through all I can find for this issue. But not been able to resolve it. I was wondering if anyone can help? First off - all electric windows were working a week ago. (V Reg Galaxy Ghia X 2.8) Then the passenger door one stopped working. Then yesterday, the drivers one stopped working. The rear drivers one went down - but would not go back up again (currently stuck fully down). I could here the motor when pressing the button to go down, but no sound when pressing up (front buttons, or door buttons). The passenger rear one worked fine. The very back windows work fine. I came to have a look at it today (after reading on here guessing the door wiring). I have checked all the continuity on the drivers rear door and all wires look ok (although some were chaffed - since insulated). Now all the four windows will not opperate! But the very back two still work fine!? I have checked all fuses I can think of, and had a quick inspection of the wires to the other doors - they all look fine. I had a look for this control box that I have seen mentioned under the passenger seat - but canno find this (only one connection that I think is the heated seats). What could be causing this? I will be taking off the door cards for the other doors tomorrow to check the continuity for all doors - but suspect it could be something else. Is there anything else that controls the electric windows? Really desparate here, as it is tipping down buckets, and the window is fully open! Thanks in advace Quote

Thanks in advaceHi and welcome to the forumI think you need to go back to the drivers door trunking and inspect each wire carefully, the insulation may look OK but wire has broken inside, this is a common fault on these cars and causes all sorts of problems with electric windows, central locking, mirrors, speakers, and alarm. Westane Posted January 7, 2011 Author Report Posted January 7, 2011 Thanks, I will take the door card off tomorrow and check the continuity on the drivers door. Have wrapped the hole up with a very trendy bin bag for tonight! Will keep you updated. Quote
new nige Posted January 7, 2011 Report Posted January 7, 2011 When you remove the door card check the wiring loom as it crosses the door frame, mine was shorting on the door frame which played havoc with both front doors, this didn Quote
Westane Posted January 8, 2011 Author Report Posted January 8, 2011 (edited) Update. The connector on the passenger door has got water in it (typically the last one to check!), which has corroded serveral connectors, two to the point that there is no continuity accross them at all and are ready to fall off. Clearly the door loom will have to be replaced - will see what I can find (has it got a name, or part number?). Big question now is - how has water got into there - otherwise I will get the same problem again. Any ideas? Thanks again. EDIT: Also armed with this knowlege is there any way I can jury rig the system to get the window back up for now? Edited January 8, 2011 by Westane Quote
Stevo Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 Update.EDIT: Also armed with this knowlege is there any way I can jury rig the system to get the window back up for now? You will need to remove all the door card and all trim/speakers ect from the door that the window is stuck down on.. You will need jump leads and 2 screw drivers.. Connect jump leads to screwdriver handles connect the other end to your/any other car battery that the leads will extend to if they wont reach from your own battery.. Insert both screw drivers on the loom end of the window connecter and it should come back up  Edit unsure of the galaxy but i only did this 2 hours ago on a nissan! Quote
